Management Assistance

The ITEC Superfund Program also provides Management Assistance to tribes that are impacted by sites that are on the National Priorities List, including those NPL sites that are in the remedial and post-remedial stages of the clean-up process. Management assistance ensures that the tribes impacted by Superfund sites are involved in the decision making process and are kept informed of all activities being conducted at those sites by the EPA, the ODEQ, and their contractors. This ensures that the EPA and other regulatory agencies and contractors when deciding on remedial goals and methods consider tribal concerns. The ITEC Superfund Program currently has management assistance projects for the following five sites:

  • Tar Creek Superfund Site in Ottawa County, which is a lead-zinc mining site that impacts the Quapaw, Ottawa, Peoria, Miami, Eastern Shawnee, Seneca-Cayuga, and Wyandotte Tribes

  • Oklahoma Refining Company Superfund Site in Cyril, Oklahoma, which is an abandoned petroleum refinery that impacts the Comanche, Kiowa, Apache, Fort Sill Apache, Caddo, and Wichita and Affiliated Tribes

  • Basin Refinery Site in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, which is an abandoned petroleum refinery that impacts the Creek Tribe

  • Tulsa Fuel and Manufacturing Site in Collinsville, Oklahoma, which is an abandoned lead-zinc smelter that impacts the Cherokee Tribe

  • Hudson Refinery Site in Cushing, Oklahoma, which is an abandoned petroleum refinery that impacts the Sac and Fox tribe.
