PM2.5 & PM10 Filter-based Sampling

Cherokee Nation will continue its PM2.5-10 fine particulate monitoring as part of ITEC’s PM2.5-10 Network Design and as a participant in the EPA’s National PM2.5 Monitoring initiative. PM2.5 ambient air monitoring is currently conducted at four sites; Cherokee Nation (3 sites), & the Zia Pueblo (NM). The PM10 monitoring is being conducted at the Santa Ana Pueblo (NM).

The ambient air monitoring measures PM2.5 concentrations using U.S. EPA designation RFPS-0498-118. Samples are collected once every six days in accordance with the EPA’s special purpose monitoring schedule. All samples are analyzed by Inter-Mountain Laboratories (IML), an EPA approved PM2.5 laboratory. The laboratory conducts laboratory and critical criteria data validation for data QA. The OES has primary responsibility for final data validation and reporting.

A contractor performs the independent quarterly audits for the ITEC sites: Cherokee (3 sites) Zia, and Santa Ana. An EPA contractor (Lockheed-Martin) also conducts performance audits (PEP) for 10% of the network samplers.
